EXAMINATION

Semester End Examinations (SEEs)

Semester End Examinations are conducted by the Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Technical University, as per the time table published. This time table is published by the University approximately one months prior to the commencement of examinations. The SEEs are conducted separately for Laboratory courses and theory courses.

The laboratory SEEs are conducted in batches of 30 students. Two examiners (one internal and one external) are appointed by the university for this purpose. The laboratory SEEs are scheduled, normally after the theory examinations

AICTE GUIDELINES IN MODEL CURRICULUM:

  • After successful completion of 160 credits, a student shall be eligible to get Undergraduate degree in Engineering. A student will be eligible to get Undergraduate degree with Honours only, if he/she completes additional university recommended courses only (Equivalent to 20 credits; NPTEL Courses of 4 Weeks, 8 Weeks and 12 Weeks shall be of 2. 3 and 4 Credits respectively) through MOOCs. For registration to MOOCs Courses, the students shall follow NPTEL Site http://nptel.ac.in/as per the NPTEL policy and norms. The students can register for these courses through NPTEL directly as per the course offering in Odd/Even Semesters at NPTEL. These NPTEL courses (recommended by the University) may be cleared during the B. Tech degree program (not necessary one course in each semester). After successful completion of these MOOCs courses the students, shall, provide their successful completion NPTEL status/certificates to the University (COE) through their college of study only. The student shall be awarded Hons. Degree (on successful completion of MOOCS based 20 credit) only if he/she secures 7.50 or above CGPA and passed each subject of that Degree Programme in single attempt without any grace marks

Grade and Grade Points

  • The Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Technical University (APJAKTU) Lucknow adopts absolute grading system wherein the marks are converted to grades and every semester result will be declared with semester grade point average (SGPA). Yearly Grade Point Average (YGPA) shall be calculated at each year by calculating from the formula given in section 14.4 (b) of an academic year. The Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) shall be calculated at the end of last semester of the program. The grading system is with the following letter grades and grade points scale as given below: A student obtaining Grade ‘F’ in a subject shall be considered failed in that subject and will be required to reappear in the examination. Such students after passing the failed subject in subsequent examination(s) will be awarded with grade according to marks he/she scores in the subsequent examination(s). (b) If a student’s SGPA in a semester is less than 5 to be declared pass in that semester as laid down by clause 10.3 of the ordinance, he/she shall be allowed to appear in the improvement examination of the theory subjects of that semester. Such student after passing the said subjects in subsequent examination(s) will be awarded with grade according to marks he/she scores in the subsequent examination(s). Grade Point Scale

Internal assessment:

  • Based on the Academic calendar, the Institute conducts three Internal Assessment Examinations to evaluate the students. Each department has separate centralized exam cell to conduct these examinations. The exam cell is headed by exam cell coordinator supported by Head of the department, to take care of all activities. The Exam cell prepares exam schedule, the staff duty list, seating plan, etc.
  • Individual faculty members set the question papers for their respective courses they are teaching based on the common guidelines given by the Dean Academics. The papers are submitted to question paper moderation committee consisting of senior faculty members and HoDs to assure the quality of the question paper. The quality of question paper is checked on the basis of: -Framing of questions according to COs. -Use of Blooms Taxonomy for framing the questions. -Mentioning of COs and Cognitive levels -Framing of new questions on the concepts. Question paper quality for the above-mentioned factors are checked and commented.

Once the exams are over answer scripts are evaluated in the exam cell by the concern faculty members within 7 days of completion of examination. Evaluated answer scripts are given to the students for verification and total checking. While distributing the evaluated answer scripts, the answer key/ scheme of evaluation is discussed in the class. Students are given a fair chance to appeal on any discrepancy in the valuation. Students are awarded additional/missing marks (if any) if the appeal is valid. Attainment of COs to be calculated by considering number of students attempted the particular questions The assessment marks are entered in the logbook of concerned subjects and also in the centralized software (SIM) called ------- so that any time it can be viewed by the faculty/HoD/ Principal. At present, there are three Internal Assessment tests, each carry 30 marks with the duration of 60 minutes, Five assignments based on COs for 10 marks and 10 Marks for Attendance as per the evaluation scheme of Dr APJ AKTU, Lucknow. Theory subjects are assessed through: -Three internal tests -University external test -Assignments -Seminars/quizzes Practical subjects are assessed through: -OBE continuous -Internal Lab Exam -University external lab exam -Mini projects

Projects work assessment: The project work starts during the end of the seventh semester. Senior faculty members, HOD's and Project Coordinators select one project for each group considering the quality, relevance and the university norms. Projects are selected in line with the department mission, vision, PEO, PO and PSOs. Students submit 3-5project abstracts to the department project coordinator along with their project group members and area of interest. The list of previous year projects is displayed in the notice board which ensures no repetition of project work and also encourages students to enhance the previous work. Faculty members encourage students to do in-house projects. They will be provided with the necessary hardware and software support. The project assessment is done through: -Four Internal project reviews -Final external university project review Students are encouraged not only to display their projects in "National Level Project Expo" but also to present their project ideas in conferences and also publish papers in Journals. Seminar Assessment: In the final year students have seminar in their curriculum. The students have to select recent and innovative topic and present it in front of seminar coordinator, department faculty and their class students. The seminar presentations are assessed based on: -Topic selection -Presentation -Report preparation

Question Paper Preparing Process -Individual faculty who teaches the course should prepare separate question paper. -The moderation has to be done with group of faculty members whoever teaching the same course to prepare the common question paper. -Questions should be prepared in such manner that, the Average students should score at least 65% of the total Marks. -If the subject is numerical based then paper should be prepared in a ratio of 40:60 i.e., (40% theory / derivation & 60% numerical). -Some questions should be prepared such a way that the students must use their intellectual ability to solve the questions. -Question paper pattern can vary for design-based subject only with prior permission of HOD same will be recorded in the course file.

Evaluation Scheme: -The solution for the question paper should be prepared after moderation and step marking should be clearly mentioned. -The solution with step marking should be available to the students after the conduct of CIA and same should be documented along with question paper for NBA evaluation process. Solution should upload in SIM/Info Center (selective)/ group mail of students. -The answer script should be evaluated within ONE week of conduct of CIA and step marking should be clearly mentioned on the answer script. -The answer script should be shown to the students and get it acknowledges of the same. -The CIA, evaluation and answer script display to student’s dates should be recorded on the course file and faculty dairy (Format Enclosed). -Attainment of COs to be calculated by considering number of students attempted the particular questions.

Composition of SEE marks and CIE marks: Weightage is given for Semester End Exams (SEE) and Continuous Internal Evaluation (CIE) marks in the ratio of 60:40. Even though, SEE for both theory and laboratory conducted for 100 marks, which will be scaled down to 60 marks. The total marks scored in each course will be equal to 100, which is the sum of SEE marks and CIE marks.
